Lucton is a 300 year-old co-educational school, set in idyllic countryside and historic buildings. Lucton is a small school, and this has considerable impact on both the ethos and atmosphere. All the pupils at Lucton know each other well and pupil-teacher links are excellent.
Lucton welcomes overseas pupils who do particulary well with our very small class sizes, which are small, even by independent school standards. We accept mixed ability pupils and we always do very well in the value-added tables, thanks to the high quality of the teaching staff and the excellent teacher/pupil ratio. Gill Thorne, the first Headmistress in Lucton’s three hundred years, is very pleased with recent exams results and consistently high placing in the value-added tables. “I am delighted for the pupils, this is their achievement, but it is also a fantastic endorsement of the quality of teaching at Lucton and the benefits of our small classes.”
The Sixth Form at Lucton represents an amazing prospect for teaching in incredibly small groups, which offer an unbeatable teacher-pupil ratio at this critical stage.
Boarders at Lucton all have a room to themselves in a modern purpose-built block. Plans are currently underway to increase the boarding capacity and work on a brand new indoor swimming pool has just been completed.
In spite of steady growth in recent years, there is no complacency at Lucton and Mrs Thorne has managed to recruit some excellent new staff. “We have recently been joined by many teachers with excellent A Level backgrounds, they include A Level examiners and school inspectors.”
